Wattles stabilize slopes by decreasing the slope length and by slowing, spreading and filtering overland water flow. The addition of Wattles to a slope helps to prevent sheet erosion as well as gully development, both of which occur when runoff flows uninterrupted down a slope. Wattles can be used to protect storm drain inlets. Because the wattles are flexible, the fiber rolls can be adapted to curb inlets as well as area drains. As with all sediment control devices, the fiber rolls should be inspected after each significant storm event, and sediment and debris should be removed and disposed of properly.
