I would have to agree with i'm confused. Your response to the “I’m Confused” posting actually swayed my undecided vote to not go to Ann. It just seems interesting to me that these unions support Ann. We all know the bull behind politics. If a developer wanted to donate to Ann I believe that she wouldn't hesitate to hand over a remit envelope in 3 split seconds. All this will become clear in the coming months. Ann isn't for saving the environment. She owns a balloon shop for crying out loud!

Building the World Around You
Have you ever looked up at a towering city skyline and wondered, “Who built that?” What about while you were gazing at the expanse of the Golden Gate Bridge or the golden Tower Bridge? Ever thought about who built those?
Proud union iron workers built every one of those structures, along with just about every other kind of building, bridge or industrial structure you can name. That’s right -- every day, hardworking, dedicated iron workers put sweat, skill and savvy into the bridges that link us together; the stadiums, like the River Cats', where we watch our sports heroes play, and of course, the soaring towers that scrape the sky. We work among the clouds erecting the skeletons of structures; set steel rebar in concrete to reinforce structures; and ornament buildings with curtain wall and window wall systems. Iron working is a multi-faceted trade, led by professionals with skill sets that are always in demand.
When you're an iron worker you have the opportunity to help build the landmarks and shape the skylines of the future. It doesn't get much more gratifying than being able to stand back, admire your work and say, "I built that!"
With Ann Johnston as Mayor She can continue to help us to build and even better city, then the one we already have.

ANN JOHNSTON FOR MAYOR "2008" (STOCKTON)

I am running for Mayor because Stockton needs strong leadership to move the city forward in difficult times, to solve the crime problem, to bring in high paying jobs, and to plan appropriately for future growth and development. I believe we need to involve all citizens in providing information, assessing the issues, communicating and working together with an open government.
While I was on the City Council we were making significant progress in reducing crime and working with schools to improve literacy and graduation results. In the past four years the city has regressed;

Crime has increased,
Businesses are closing,
Our schools are falling further behind.
We need to use the "best practices" of cities on the move, and the City needs open minded strong leadership to do that.

The three most important things I would like to accomplish during my term of office:

Rid Stockton of criminal activity, gangs, and neighborhood blight
Finish the downtown/waterfront redevelopment
Bring in new businesses with high-paying jobs & good benefits
To address these critical issues, I will provide the leadership needed to move the City to restore successful program, expand those that are working well, and bring in the "best practices" from other cities.

Crime:

Implement gang injunctions,
Enforce truancy and curfew laws,
Reinstitute the School Resource Officer Program in Elementary and Middle Schools,
Expand the Peacekeeper Program
Create Neighborhood Councils,
Hold police District Commanders accountable for the crime in their districts.
Work with the County to develop a full time team with a full time prosecutor, police, probation and social services representative to coordinate the actions of separate agencies that can help both prevent and suppress crime.
Jobs:

Work with the San Joaquin Partnership, the Port of Stockton, the County and the other economic development entities to recruit businesses with good wages and benefits to our city, stressing our new expanded Enterprise Zone.
Education:

Work to implement an Adopt a School project with the business community
Develop partnerships with the local School Districts to address truancy and drop out issues
Work with the Schools to develop job readiness programs similar to Jobs for Americas Graduates and Youth Build
Growth and Development:

"Smart Growth" ideas should be adopted by the City, including programs that:
a) Encourage building infill projects along with any expansion into current agricultural land.
b) Encourage live/work projects in the central and downtown areas.
c) Require increased areas of open space/parklands in the City.
d) Encourage multi-story buildings in order to reduce urban sprawl.
e) Require "green" building practices in all building projects.
f) Encourage transit-oriented projects near existing transit routes.
g) Preserve open space between our city and neighboring cities.
h) Discourage new housing developments in the unincorporated portions of the County.

I have served eight years on the Stockton City Council and 13 years on the Lodi School Board. I recently celebrated 27 years as a business owner in downtown Stockton.....

I got a chance to meet Ann Johnston in person, and she made a good impact on my wife and myself, She is honest and straight forward, and since she made an impact on us we plan to make an impact on others by reminding the community too Vote for Ann on June,3, and let Her make a difference.......
