Who: Students of education, substitute teachers, former teachers, research assistants, or school technology coordinators. Familiarity with basic video recording technology, tablets, and media uploading required. A preference will be given to individuals with experience in schools and have already passed district required background checks.
What: Empirical Education Inc. and Heller Research Associates are conducting a federally-funded evaluation to assess the impact of a professional learning program for elementary school teachers on student science achievement and student engagement in science. As part of this evaluation, we are seeking consultants to set up and disassemble video recording equipment (using Swivl technology (https://www.swivl.com/) and an iPad) in participating teachers' classrooms and collect classroom materials. This position does not require that you stay in the classroom during the recording. Consultants will also be responsible for following established protocols to transmit the collected video and materials to Empirical Education.
When and Where: Classrooms will be video recorded in school districts in California's Central Valley (Stockton, Manteca, Lodi, Sylvan, and Turlock). Video collection will take place between late March and early June of the 2016/2017 school year. Consultants will work between 10-40 hours per week in schools during Spring 2017, depending on the scheduling with schools and teachers.
Compensation: Consultants receive compensation in the amount of $150 per full day. Lodging, meals, and mileage will be reimbursed when overnight travel is required. Consultants will complete a one-day paid training in March or April before conducting video recordings.
Requirements: Consultants must be able to provide their own means of transportation (car) between school sites and must have access to a computer and email for scheduling and other communication. All video recording equipment will be provided.
Consultants will need to provide certain clearance documents to be permitted on school campus (fingerprinting/background checks and proof of current TB, if required by district). Preference will be given to applicants who have already passed background checks. If you have recently worked in a school in California, you will likely already have these documents.
If you are interested in participating in this evaluation, please email email@example.com your resume, three references, and background check documents. In the body of your email, please include the following information:
